Nail Biting is Stressful!!

For those of you who still bite your nails, and for those of you who broke the habit, I thought this topic was interesting and again, one we can all relate to.

Whether you bite your nails in times of stress, nervousness or excitement, I believe most of us can say "I've been there". Nail biting is one of most common nervous habits that many of of still cannot break. Many people bite their nails without realizing they are. This goes along with hair twisting, skin rubbing, etc which I always see many people doing.

People of all ages are starting, or continuing to nail bite, and for those of you who have kicked the habit, Good for you!!

Nail biting occurs in people going through puberty and the most common ages to be a 'nail biter' are from 10-18.

--> This happens moreso in children because of problems in school, stress over homework/ projects or even around people they may not know and are nervous to talk to.

There are a less people 18-22 who are still continuing to bite their nails and even a smaller number of adults.

In rare cases nail biting can be looked at as a form of OCD, but can be treated if it truly is a cause.

  1. I have been trying to break the habit for years now. I hate the way it feels and looks but just can't seem to stop. Last year I set a goal to do it with the help from a friend to always hit me in the arm if I was about to bite. She also put a bad tasting, clear nail polish on. This didn't work so she put a colorful one on. I didn't want to ruin it so I was better about biting. This actually worked! Now I just have to think about how to fix my cuticles...

  2. I can definitely relate to this topic. I never thought that I was a huge nail biter but recently when I was hanging out with some friends one of them yelled at me because I kept biting my nails. It may not be so much a nervous habit but more like second nature now. Interesting topic to talk about and I definitely need to break the habit!

  3. I am feeling better about my manicure already! Good to see you tap into some basic, yet important lifestyle topics. Check your posts for spacing and text size a little in case you're not fitting as much in the space as you'd like. Keep up the good work!

  4. I started biting my nails in high school and it was definitely a nervous habit. I found myself doing it when I was bored in class or if I was nervous for a big game. It got really bad my senior year of high school until my mom came home one day with this clear coated polish called "No Bite." (Steph, this might be the same thing you were talking about) I've never tasted anything so bitter, and knock on wood, I ended up growing out of the habit. If you bite your nails, it is worth trying the 'no bite' stuff:

  5. I've been there. I used to bite my nails when I was younger and then once I got older the thought of putting potential germy hands in my mouth and the fear of getting sick was enough to make me quick. I can't honestly pin point my reasoning, but if I had to guess I would definatley say it was stress related.
